This month JV has played some of the top JV teams in the State: Lake Forest, PREP Black, Maine, D155, and York. Although the scores didn't always fall in their favor, these games provided a great learning experience for the coaches and players as they prepare for their ultimate goal of a State Championship in March.
In the second to last game of a busy month, JV faced off against a Lake Park team that is loaded with 15 Juniors and Seniors! Lake Park got on the board first with a punch-in from the crease. But The Stampede answered with a power-play goal on a nasty slap shot through traffic by defenseman Jack Cesek (#4). The game remained tied in a ping-pong like battle, with some nice saves by goalie Mickey Fanella (#31) to keep it that way. But then The Stampede broke the game wide open with impressive goals by Joe Marsh (#15), Peter Kurpiewski (#73) and Mike Coduti (#18), giving The Stampede a 4-1 well-deserved victory.
The final game in October was even better. In this showdown against Deerfield, The Stampede showed how good team hockey is hard to beat. Almost the entire roster got on the stat board in this 6-3 Stampede win. In the first period, getting things rolling with a goal was Peter Kurpiewski (#73) assisted by Luke Janczak (#89) and Logan Chessick (#32). In the second period, Stefan Tujarov (#21) kept things going with a goal, assisted by Mike Coduti (#18). Sam Gerovoy (#47) then scored on assists by Tujarov and Michael Tsigalis (#16). Still in the second, first-year player, Junior Riley Manthy (#67) got on the board with assists by Max Shukham (#2) and Joe Maher (#38). In the third, it was Coduti with a goal on the assist by Andrew Dishchuk (#14), followed by a Jason Wiener (#3) goal, assisted by Connor Buckley (#10). And all these games and jersey numbers on the stat sheet meant an impressive Stampede team victory!
